'Holland' is what we often call The Netherlands. In fact, it's what people who don't live there often call it.

Where does the name 'Holland' come from? There are actually two provinces within The Netherlands called Noord Holland (North Holland) and Zuid Holland (South Holland). They do include some of the major cities, like Amsterdam and The Hague, but they aren't all there is to The Netherlands, as you'll see from the map below.

An interesting fact: North Holland and South Holland are mostly below sea level! Actually, about one third of the land area in Holland is lower than the level of the North Sea.
